Florida Atlantic University ranks No.1 in Elementary Education in the state of Florida. Findings for 2021 were published in an annual report prepared for the Florida Department of Education by Education Counsel. “Florida Teacher Preparation Programs: A Summary and Analysis of Program Performance” reported the results of each approved teacher preparation program’s annual progress on established performance measures, as well as each program’s current approval status.

“The College of Education does an outstanding job preparing teachers for public schools.  We are thrilled that the Florida Department of Education has documented the success of our students — taught by a first-rate faculty — who are improving the lives of K-12 students throughout South Florida and beyond,” said Stephen Silverman, Ed.D., dean of FAU College of Education.

Elementary Education/ESOL and Elementary Education/ESOL/Reading offered by FAU College of Education shared top summative scores with four other programs. FAU had almost three times the number of completers, 1090, as the next top scoring institution, 380. Of Florida’s five largest programs, FAU maintained its No.1 ranking for a second year.

“It is apparent that Florida Atlantic University Teacher preparation programs are moving in the right direction. It is because of the hard work of staff, administration, and most importantly, faculty,” said Ernest Brewer, Ed.D., Assistant Dean for School Engagement.

Additionally, the Mathematics program at FAU increased ranking by 0.8%, the second highest gain, placing it third beneath two institutions that tied for the NO.1 ranking. FAU’s English/ESOL ranking was NO.2 and Reading ranked No.8.
