Intellectual Foundations Program (IFP) Audit Request

Welcome to the Intellectual Foundations Program (IFP) Audit Request for undergraduate students only. Here you will find the Audit Request Form, information regarding the IFP, and IFP requirements. The purpose of the Student IFP Audit is to assess how and if a students’ credits can be used to fulfill IFP (General Education) degree requirements. For the purposes of this audit, students must:

  1. Be formally admitted to FAU
  2. Have official updated transcripts on file with FAU - from all institutions previously attended

Once you have submitted the request form, an written response will be forwarded to you via e-mail. Students are encouraged to follow-up with their college academic advisor if they have questions about the audit results. This assessment focuses on IFP requirements and does not address requirements specific to the major/degree program.

Due to Advance Registration for currently enrolled students, the repsonse time for audit
requests will be longer than usual.

Requests for Gordon Rule Writing (GRW) / Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) evaluations must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar for processing - evaluation form .


Intellectual Foundations Program (IFP) Requirements

All entering freshmen, transfer students with less than 30 credits, and transfer students who have not earned an Associate of Arts (AA) Degree must fulfill the University's IFP requirements as part of their pursuit of the baccalaureate degree. While the classes do not necessarily relate to the major, they do provide a foundation of knowledge that all well-educated students should possess. The IFP is comprised of a total of 36 credit hours:  

6 credit hours of Foundations of Written Communication 

6 credit hours of Foundations of Society & Human Behavior 

6 credit hours of Foundations of Science & the Natural World 

6 credit hours of Foundations of Mathematics & Quantitative Reasoning

6 credit hours of Foundations of Global Citizenship 

6 credit hours of Foundations of Humanities
