Program Overview

The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is the highest practice-focused degree in nursing. It is designed for nurses who are ready to advance their clinical expertise, lead systems-level change, and improve healthcare outcomes through evidence-based practice and innovation.

The program offers two points of entry:

  • BSN-to-DNP (Full-Time) – for nurses with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing who wish to pursue advanced practice certification. Students may choose a concentration in:
    • Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP)
    • Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner (AGPCNP)
    • Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP)

  • Post-Master’s DNP (Part-Time) – for certified Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) who hold a master’s degree and are seeking to expand their leadership and practice capabilities at the doctoral level.

Unlike the PhD, which prepares nurse scientists for research-focused careers, the DNP equips nurses to apply research to clinical practice, lead innovation, and shape healthcare delivery across diverse populations and settings.

DNP graduates are prepared to:

  • Lead interdisciplinary teams to improve care quality and patient safety

  • Translate research into real-world clinical and organizational improvements

  • Design, implement, and evaluate evidence-based practice and quality improvement initiatives

  • Influence health policy and drive system-level change

  • Manage complex patient care across primary and specialty settings

Ideal candidates for the DNP program are self-directed, organized, and intellectually curious and prepared for the academic rigor of doctoral study. They are committed to advancing health equity, improving care delivery, and leading change within their clinical settings and communities.
