Program Description
Spend your summer immersed in the cultural and intellectual heart of France through our study abroad program in Paris and Aix-en-Provence. Open to all undergraduate students, this interdisciplinary program combines the vibrant energy of Paris with the charm of southern France for a truly transformative academic experience. All participants will take a core course in French and Francophone Cultures and Civilizations, taught in English, and then choose a second course in either French language (beginning through advanced levels) or Ecology of the Mediterranean. Whether you're looking to fulfill language requirements, earn biology credit, or deepen your understanding of French culture, this program offers an unforgettable blend of academic rigor, cultural immersion, and personal growth.

Program Course Offerings:
- FRT 2510: Honors Francophone Cultures & Civilizations (3 credits) - *Required for all participants*
- FRE 2957: Honors French Language and Culture Study Abroad (3-4 credits)
- BSC 4957: Ecology of the Mediterranean (3 credits)
Course Eligibility & Requirements:
Students participating on the program are required to take FRT 2510 and one of the other courses offered (6-7 credits total)

FRT 2510 - Counts as General Education Core Humanities B. May count for the Concentration in International Studies (Europe), elective for Minor Concentration in Francophone Studies, OR Distribution Elective in Humanities.
FRE 2957 - Counts as part of the Foreign Language graduation requirement and/or elective for Minor Concentration in Francophone Studies
BSC 4957 - Counts as an elective for the Major Concentration in Biology
Important Notice: Before departure, students are required to complete one credit of online coursework for FRT 2510 through Canvas. These readings and assignments must be completed remotely between May 22 and May 28, 2027. Students should ensure they are available and prepared to dedicate time that week to successfully complete all required online work.

Routine processing times can take 6-8 weeks, and expedited applications in 2-3 weeks. Processing times begin when your application is received by a passport agency or center, and do not include mailing times. It may take up to 2 weeks for your application to be received by passport agency, and up to 2 weeks for you to receive your completed passport after agency mails it to you. Therefore, you should add an additional 4 weeks to you passport application processing time.
Program Eligibility & Requirements
- Must have a 3.0 overall GPA for undergraduate
- Must be in good academic standing at the time of application
- Students enrolling in French language must complete a French Language Placement Test prior to traveling to France
- Prerequisites for respective course you choose to take
- Must be eligible to take FAU courses during the study abroad program term

Location
Paris, France’s vibrant capital, blends timeless elegance with modern creativity. During three unforgettable days, students will experience the city’s iconic art, architecture, and café culture while gaining insight into how Paris continues to shape global ideas and trends. Afterward, students will settle in Aix-en-Provence, a sun-soaked university town in the heart of southern France celebrated for its artistic heritage, lively markets, and relaxed Mediterranean rhythm. Known as the home of painter Paul Cézanne, Aix inspires creativity at every corner, from its tree-lined boulevards and fountains to its nearby vineyards and lavender fields. This welcoming city offers the perfect setting for deeper cultural immersion, reflection, and discovery amid the beauty of Provence.
Housing
Students will stay in double or triple occupancy rooms at a centrally located hostel in Paris, with daily breakfast, air conditioning, and Wi-Fi included. In Aix-en-Provence, accommodations will be double or triple rooms in homestays with local hosts, providing daily breakfast, five evening meals per week with homestay family, Wi-Fi access, and laundry services once per week for a comfortable and authentic living experience.

$4,922 + tuition for courses/credits taken on program (FAU in-state and out-of-state rates apply)

1ST PAYMENT: $500 Due January 16, 2027
2ND PAYMENT: $4,422 Due February 20, 2027

Travel Documentation, Health, and Safety
Passport and Travel Documentation
- A valid passport is required for all international travel. You need a passport to board an international flight and to enter the country. Passport cards will not be accepted as form of I.D. You may be denied boarding if you travel with a passport that appears damaged or altered.

- Some countries require that your passport be valid at least six months beyond the dates of your trip. Some airlines will not allow you to board if this requirement is not met. Check the Country Information to learn about entry and exit requirements for the country or countries in which you are traveling.
- If you are applying for a passport for the first time, you need to renew your passport, or you have any other passport questions, you can find information on the Travel.State.Gov website. In addition, several U.S. Embassies and Consulates provide information to assist applicants in collecting the documentation needed. For a list of Embassies, please visit U.S. Embassy.gov.
- Non-U.S. Citizens may need additional travel documentation. If you are not a U.S. citizen, you should research the study abroad program destination and your home country to determine if a visa or additional travel documentation is required.
International Health Insurance
All FAU students participating on an FAU Faculty-led Program will be registered in international health and travel insurance coverage through Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI). This mandatory insurance ensures that students have access to medical and emergency support services while abroad. This is included in the program cost. The 2027 Coverage plan will be available in January 2027. Participants can review the current 2026 plan HERE for reference.

Pre-departure Orientation and Meetings
All students must attend pre-departure sessions prior to study abroad. Education Abroad and your program faculty leaders will provide you with further details pertaining to dates, times, and location in the semester before your program.
1) Mandatory pre-departure orientation hosted by the Education Abroad office. This session will cover general international travel related topics such as health, safety, insurance, and travel tips.
2) Mandatory pre-departure meeting hosted by program faculty leader. This session will cover program and location specific information such as arrival, expectations, itinerary, and course overview.
