Dr. David Kumar Showcases Innovative Nanotechnology and Problem-Based Learning Research to Inspire Young Science Learners
Monday, Aug 04, 2025
Dr. David Kumar’s innovative research in nanotechnology and problem-based learning (PBL) has been featured in FAU’s Research News Desk. His recent study in the Proceedings of the European Academy of Sciences & Arts, with co-author Dr. Sabrina F. Sembiante, demonstrates how introducing nanotechnology through a web-supported, multimedia-based PBL model can spark curiosity, strengthen critical thinking, and make science more relevant to young learners. His “Catching the Rays” module invites students to explore real-world issues, such as choosing between sunscreens made with nano-sized versus regular zinc oxide particles, while developing evidence-based reasoning skills and understanding nanotechnology’s societal impacts. He has long been a proponent of connecting classroom science to real-world challenges and equipping teachers with innovative tools and strategies. A huge kudos to Dr. Kumar on this important work that seeks to improve access and engagement in early science education!!
