Getting to Know CAPS and South Florida

The mission of Florida Atlantic University Counseling & Psychological Services is to provide FAU students with quality, individualized, timely, and effective mental health services that allow them to improve and maintain their mental well-being and therefore to meet their educational, personal, emotional, and psychological goals. CAPS further supports FAU students by providing training, consultation, and outreach programming to students, faculty and staff so that they might better respond to the psychological needs of students. CAPS also trains graduate students in the provision of short-term psychological care and contributes to the university’s culture of research.


Getting to know the staff at CAPS:

The staff at CAPS highly values our training program and is fully committed to providing quality training through supervision, training seminars, co-leading group therapy with senior staff, case conference, supervision of supervision, assessment, outreach, consultation, ect. We view interns as part of our staff and value team building, collaboration, and process-oriented discussions that involve introspection and awareness of one’s own biases. Our center is fast-paced, yet we dedicate time to consult, encourage self-care, support and encourage one another, and have an open-door environment.

Getting to know South Florida:

South Florida is a large area spanning from Miami to Fort Lauderdale, through Boca Raton, up to Palm Beach and Jupiter. Boca Raton is in the middle of South Florida, allowing easy accessibility to diverse communities and a variety of activities. South Florida has a community for everyone. There is a large Jewish community, it is an LGBTQ-friendly area, and people come from various places around the world and the US, including Canada, the Caribbean and South America, as well as the East Coast.

South Florida has activities for everyone, including the endless outdoor activities (e.g., stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, canoeing, wildlife observing, boating, state parks), array of live music from local bands every day of the week, concerts, comedy improv, exploration of various cultural experiences through festivals, museums, art galleries, and visiting diverse communities (e.g., Wynwood, Little Haiti, Wilton Manors, Little Havana). Living here makes it exceptionally convenient to take a weekend trip to explore other parts of Florida, such as Orlando, the Keys, St. Augustine, Tampa (just to name a few). South Florida has something for everyone!
