Post-Doctoral Residency in Psychology

Two Post-doctoral Resident positions are being offered at FAU Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS). This is a full-time, 12-month post-doctoral residency. Our residency program is unique in not only offering traditional generalist training but also offers a specialty emphasis area for advanced training. Emphasis areas include but are not limited to eating disorders, training & supervision, group counseling, assessment, sport psychology and trauma-focused therapy (See post-doc brochure for further information on emphasis areas). Emphasis areas for 2026-2027 school year are still being decided. The post-doc program allows for flexibility and for residents to individualize their experiences to align with their goals and solidify their professional identities.

The fellow is required to complete 2000 hours, including a minimum of 900 hours in activities related to direct clinical contact. For more information please refer to our  post-doctoral residency training program brochure (coming later in the summer) . We will updated the brochure with emphasis areas for next year in mid-September. 

The residency tentatively begins August 4th, 2025 and the salary is  $70,000 annual compensation. Residents will also receive up to 80 hours of annual leave, 80 hours of sick leave, and 40 hours of professional development leave for the year. In addition, FAU CAPS has a hybrid system of in-person and telehealth services. Residents will have one remote day per week and have extra remote days that can be used throughout the semester.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications
  • Ph.D. or Psy.D. in Counseling or Clinical Psychology by start date
  • Successfully completed an APA-accredited internship prior to start date
  • Need to obtain clinical hours needed for licensure
  • Committed to providing high quality clinical services that integrate competency frameworks.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the highest ethical standards of professional practice
Desired Qualifications 
  • Experience with a range of individuals, communities and lived experiences. 
  • Experience working within a University Counseling Center and/or with college students. 
  • Experience providing group therapy and outreach programs.
  • Experience providing supervision to practicum/extern student therapists. 

Note:  Selected residents are required to successfully pass a level 2 background check as a condition of employment.

Application review will start September 1, 2025. Priority will be given to applications that are turned in December 6th, 2025. We will begin extending interviews mid-to-late December. Positions will be open until filled. Initial offers for the position will be made as soon as interviews are completed and the search committee reviews the candidates.
