MVSS Student and U.S. Coast Guard Officer Trainee (OT) Sarah Duffany deployed to Coast Guard Cutter KINGFISHER, Charleston, SC, for Summer 2025!
Military and Veteran Student Success (MVSS) is proud to recognize Coast Guard Officer Trainee (OT) and Florida Atlantic military student Sarah Duffany, who reported for a 30-day operational assignment to Coast Guard Cutter (CGC)  Kingfisher  on June 1st, 2025. CGC  Kingfisher,  based at Coast Guard Base Charleston, South Carolina, is an 87-foot patrol cutter tasked with a broad range of Coast Guard missions including: law enforcement, vessel boardings, fisheries patrols, environmental protection, and search and rescue (SAR) missions.

Through the Coast Guard College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative (CSPI) Scholarship Program at Florida Atlantic, OT Duffany has been preparing to serve as a Commissioned Officer (Ensign) in the U.S. Coast Guard upon graduation.
During her time aboard, OT Duffany earned leadership, operations, and technical qualifications as In Port Officer of the Day (OOD), Basic Damage Control, Helmsman, Lookout, and Deck Seaman. While in port, she learned and assisted with vessel maintenance and operational readiness. OT Duffany is currently progressing through Boat Crew operations and certifications.

OT Duffany reported that “ I’ve integrated well with the crew, making lifelong connections with fellow shipmates, and have greatly valued the hands-on experience and mentorship as an Officer-in-Training. This opportunity has helped prepare me for future service in the Coast Guard fleet .” OT Duffany’s orders aboard CGC  Kingfisher  conclude on August 1st, 2025. She will return to Florida Atlantic for her final year in the Fall 2025 Semester.
