First Stadium Stair Climb Fitness Challenge!
Sunday, Sep 28, 2025
On September 11, 2025, campus and community partners participated in a joint 9/11 ceremony held for the first time at FAU's Flager Credit Union Stadium. Opening the event was our own FAU, U.S. Army ROTC Talon Battalion Color Guard, joined by the City of Boca Raton Police Color Guard. FAU student Sarah Duffany, a U.S. Coast Guard Officer Trainee in the College Student Pre-Commissioning Initiative Scholarship Program and Senior offered a reflective oration and moment of silence to all who had gathered.
Immediately after, participants transitioned to the inaugural FAU 9/11 Stadium Stair Climb Fitness Challenge in the Flagler Credit Union Stadium, North and South Towers. The fitness challenge was an exhaustive 10-round, 2,050 step ascent, symbolizing the 110 floors ascended by First Responders in the World Trade Center towers. Some participants wore full police duty and SRT gear, military field gear, and weighted vests to replicate the challenge of the brave rescuers on that fateful day. At exactly 8:46 a.m., marking the time that the first World Trade Center tower was struck by an aircraft, participants from all across campus and the community joined together as one, and took those first steps together here.
We look forward to continuing this event and paying tribute to those who perished and their surviving families.
