MVSS David Alphonso skydiving with the Golden Knights

On February 2, 2026, Florida Atlantic’s Military and Veteran Student Success (MVSS) team leaders joined the U.S Army’s elite aerial demonstration unit and parachute team, known as the “Golden Knights”, at Homestead Air Reserve Base for an epic skydiving event!

With special thanks to Florida Atlantic’s Army ROTC Battalion Professor of Military Science and U.S. Army leaders, Director Jason Nadolinski and Assistant Director David Alphonso, Division of Student Affairs, MVSS, were invited to represent Florida Atlantic and join the Golden Knights to skydive Miami.

The U.S. Army Golden Knights are one of only three official, elite military aerial ambassador units, joining the ranks of the U.S. Blue Angels and the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds. With the Golden Knights, the MVSS team would be skydiving over Miami, free falling at speeds of up to 120 MPH from 12,500 feet!

Assistant Director David Alphonso had never experienced skydiving before, let alone from 12,500 ft., and enduring over one minute of complete free fall! Despite most people being afraid of such an extreme event, David showed through a very bold example: “Life begins outside of your comfort zone!”

MVSS extends a very sincere thanks to our Army ROTC partners, U.S. Army Recruiting Battalion South Florida, and the entire Golden Knights team of Soldiers. Go Owls!
