Accelerated BSN student Eddy Pierre Jean sees his nursing degree as a stepping stone to professional growth and a meaningful career serving his community.

Scheduled to graduate in December 2025, Eddy is part of the Davie campus cohort of the track, which is specifically designed for students with a baccalaureate degree in another field seeking to become a Registered Nurse.

With a bachelor’s in biology from Florida International University, Eddy said it provided a strong foundation in science, which helped him tremendously in nursing school.

“Becoming a nurse was always my dream, but family responsibilities and life circumstances delayed the process,” Eddy said. “Through fieldwork, I had the chance to meet nurses and doctors who reignited that passion. They inspired me to stop waiting and finally turn my dreams into action. Everything I’ve done so far has led me here.”

Eddy experienced firsthand how nurses can deeply impact lives. Born very prematurely due to a condition that made it difficult for his mother to carry a pregnancy to term, he credits his survival to the dedication of the NICU nurses who kept him alive and stable during those critical early days.

Growing up, he also witnessed nurses caring for his grandmother with dignity and compassion after she suffered a severe stroke that left her completely paralyzed.

“I want to be that person who shows up, advocates, and helps people heal or make tough, life-changing decisions,” he stated.

The faculty and clinical instructors in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program, he said, are deeply committed to student success, creating an incredible support system.

He credits Dr. Andrea Archer, his health assessment professor and later clinical instructor, for helping him make a smooth transition from classroom learning to hands-on practice.

“The Accelerated BSN degree is opening up a world of opportunity for me, whether it's clinical practice, teaching, or research,” Eddy said, adding that he plans to begin his career in a hospital setting, ideally in acute care or psychiatric nursing.

While he’s open to pursuing graduate school in the future, his immediate goal is to become a strong, competent bedside nurse.

Eddy encourages prospective Accelerated BSN students to remember that nursing is challenging, but it is achievable with determination and resilience. He believes a student’s previous degree plays a meaningful role in shaping the kind of nurse they become. “It’s not always easy, but it’s absolutely worth it. It’ll change your life in ways you never expected,” he added.
