Giving Back to Her Alma Mater: Alumna Sandra Daccarett

Three-time Florida Atlantic University alumna Sandra Daccarett, B.S.N. ’03, M.S.N. ’11, D.N.P. ’18, has cultivated a nursing career motivated by her steadfast commitment to lifelong learning and excellence in patient care. From the bedside to the operating room, and now to her private practice, each step has deepened her clinical insights, sharpened her skills and fostered the leadership that guides her work today.

“The most rewarding part of my job is that every day brings an opportunity to learn and evolve—to open my mind to new approaches, refine my skills and find better ways to serve my patients,” shared Dr. Daccarett. “That sense of lifelong growth was first instilled in me at Florida Atlantic, where I learned that great care begins with curiosity, compassion and the courage to keep learning.”

Dr. Daccarett, a specialist in memory loss and Alzheimer’s disease, works as a Nurse Practitioner at a neurology clinic in Miami Lakes, where she provides patient-centered, comprehensive care that blends clinical expertise with compassion. She manages both acute and chronic conditions, emphasizes preventive health and leads a dedicated team to ensure the community has access to high-quality, holistic care. In 2023, Dr. Daccarett opened her own primary care practice, S D Healthcare Inc., in Davie.

“Owning my clinic has allowed me to merge health care delivery with entrepreneurship, creating a space where patients feel heard, respected and empowered,” noted Dr. Daccarett.

In addition to her full workload, Dr. Daccarett finds time to mentor the next generation of nurses as a preceptor. She also participates in community outreach events alongside Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing students.

“I have had the privilege of precepting Florida Atlantic Nurse Practitioner (NP) students in primary care practice, helping them bridge classroom knowledge with real-world patient care,” shared Dr. Daccarett. “It is important to me to model compassionate, community-focused care, as well as and to help train nurses who will lead with both skill and heart.”

Initially, Dr. Daccarett pursued nursing to secure a schedule that would allow her to support her daughter, Rebekka F. Bruce, before and after school. However, her education at Florida Atlantic cultivated a deep passion for the profession, particularly in caring for older adults—a focus that profoundly influenced her career path. Dr. Daccarett’s dedication to nursing is so impactful that her daughter is following in her footsteps. Rebekka is currently enrolled in the College of Nursing’s NP program.

“My Florida Atlantic nursing education, combined with the guidance of my mentors and professors, have shaped my journey,” expressed Dr. Daccarett. “I am deeply grateful for their support, and I believe that caring for one another is the very heart of our world. With this spirit, I remain committed to compassionate leadership and lifelong learning.”
