Julia Kessel, BSN ‘25
Alumna Julia Kessel supports Florida Atlantic’s nursing program because of the college's deep dedication to caring science. It also offered a place where her compassion, drive and desire to make a difference could thrive.
“I chose this program because it teaches not just how to treat illness, but how to honor the whole person,” expressed Kessel. “I am also fortunate to have been supported by an entire community of caring professors. Their belief in me has shaped who I am becoming as a nurse.”
Kessel was inducted as a member of the university’s 2025 Parliament of OWLs (Older, Wiser, Leaders). She received the award as part of the university's annual Talon Leadership and Service Awards ceremony, organized by Florida Atlantic's Alumni and Community Engagement, on November 6, 2025.
Established in 2000, Florida Atlantic’s Parliament of OWLs recognizes the leadership and academic achievements that graduating seniors have shown during their tenure on campus. Held every fall during Homecoming Week, the event unites alumni, students, campus and community leaders in a celebration of leadership, support and service to Florida Atlantic.
“Being named a 2025 Parliament of OWLs winner was profoundly meaningful,” stated Kessel. “It feels like all of my hard work, resilience and dedication to nursing have come full circle. I am honored that the Florida Atlantic community saw the heart I put into this journey.”
As an undergraduate, Kessel served as a Student Academic Mentor. In that role, she strived to help students navigate a challenging nursing program with confidence and support.
“I tried to embody leadership through authenticity, compassion and the belief that small acts of kindness create real change,” shared Kessel. “Serving the College of Nursing, whether mentoring, representing the college or supporting my peers, it never felt like an obligation but a privilege. My goal was to always make people feel valued, encouraged and less alone.”
Kessel received her Accelerated BSN degree in December 2025. Looking ahead, she hopes to work in an ophthalmology pre- and post-operative clinic.
“I am passionate about helping patients regain clarity, comfort and confidence, and I am drawn to the unique blend of precision, reassurance and transformative outcomes in this specialty,” noted Kessel.
