Caring in Transition: A Unitary-Caring Hermeneutic Phenomenological Study Exploring Nursing Students' Ability to Embody Presence
About this Study:
- The purpose of this study is to explore and interpret the lived experiences of nursing students regarding stress and embodiment of presence practice during their clinical education, particularly within real-life patient settings, and to uncover how these experiences influence their capacity to provide holistic, and presence-centered care.
Participation Eligibility:
- Final year nursing students of a baccalaureate program.
- Students with experience of the phenomenon and willing to share their experience through semi-structured interview session.
- Students 18 years of age or above, willing to provide informed consent, and participate in a 45 to 60-minute semi-structured interview.
- Interested students may contact the researcher using the phone number or email address provided in the recruitment material to express their interest in participating.
Benefits of Participation:
- No direct benefits to participants; however, it has the potential to contribute meaningfully to the improvement of nursing education and practice, particularly within the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing and the broader Boca Raton, Florida community.
- Findings may inform the development of educational strategies and support systems that enhance nursing students’ capacity to embody caring presence during clinical transition.
- Findings may also provide qualitative data and theoretically grounded evidence that will spur larger funded research to better prepare nursing students for clinical practice.
- Findings could provide valuable insights to clinical preceptors, nursing educators, and curriculum developers on how to better support nursing students in cultivating and nurturing a robust ability for presence practice even in the face of challenges.
- The study will generate pilot data for larger calculations, outcome selection, and feasible arguments for larger mixed-method or intervention studies.
- Each participant will receive a $50 gift card immediately after completing the full interview session as a token of appreciation for their time and contribution.
How to Participate:
- The semi-structured interview sessions will take place in a private boardroom within the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing. Interviews will be scheduled during regular working hours (Monday to Friday, 9:00 AM – 5:00 PM) at a time that is convenient for each student participant.
You Cannot Participate if:
- Individuals currently on a leave of absence or who have already graduated will not be eligible to participate.
