ABI Summer Academy 2026

We invite members of all healthcare professions to join us for the Anne Boykin Institute’s 2026 Summer Academy as we engage in creative dialogue focused on the theme of Caring at the Edge of Chaos: Transforming Interprofessional Practice and Healthcare. Dr. Tim Porter-O’Grady, co-author of Quantum Leadership: Building Better Partnerships for Sustainable Health, will open the Academy inspiring reflections on leading in challenging times. Following his presentation participants will engage in an immersive 2 1/2 day interprofessional dialogue focusing on the power of caring-based participation in changing the chaotic healthcare environment and beyond. Participants will generate plans that have potential to make possibilities realities through concrete actions. As this important work of the praxis of Caring Science emerges, our Artist-in-residence, Thomas Hyatt will create space for aesthetic re-presentations of the myriad manifestations of caring in interprofessional practice.

If you’ve never attended one of our Summer Academies, you need to know that it is not a conference! We believe that a deeper understanding emerges from the meaning that flows through dialogue. We intentionally limit the number of participants to facilitate this goal. While participants may join online or in person, all commit to be engaged fully in the dialogue. Each participant will receive a Structured Improvisational Plan (SIP) that guides our time together and provides some resources that may help to prepare for the dialogue. Evocateurs spark meaningful dialogue through raising questions and facilitating participation. There are no presentations. On this page you will see some guidelines for the etiquette of online participation in our dialogue.

We believe in the power of participation to manifest change in the world! Each Academy ends with concrete plans for projects that focus on some desired change. All participants are welcome to join groups that will work on projects or papers after the Academy.

If you have any questions, feel free to contact Marlaine Smith at msmit230@health.fau.edu.
