Florida Atlantic University President Adam Hasner visited the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center (MWC) on May 14 to learn more about the center’s critical role in supporting individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias (ADRD), as well as their caregivers.
Guided by Interim Director Dr. Alice Brumley, along with the center’s Caring Hearts Auxiliary board members and staff, President Hasner toured the clinic and the Adult Day Care program facilities, where participants engage in cognitively enriching and socially stimulating activities such as art classes, storytelling, gentle exercise and music groups. The specialized programs also include tracks for individuals with young-onset dementia, and those whose primary language is Spanish.
Dr. Brumley highlighted how the center’s holistic, person-centered approach serves both clients and caregivers through a blend of clinical care, education and research. “Our goal is to understand what matters most to each person and family member,” she said. “We meet them where they are, with compassion and clinical expertise.”
President Hasner also obtained information about the center’s comprehensive mental health services, including psychiatric evaluations and counseling. These services use caring philosophy principles and diagnostic approaches tailored to identifying behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia.
In addition to its direct services, Dr. Brumley shared that the Memory and Wellness Center contributes to academic excellence at Florida Atlantic by providing practicum opportunities for students in nursing, medicine, social work, communication disorders, health administration and other health disciplines.
As a state-designated Memory Disorder Clinic under Florida’s Department of Elder Affairs, the center is part of a network of 17 authorized clinics across the state working to advance best practices in dementia care. Dr. Brumley emphasized the importance of the MWC for individuals living with Alzheimer’s disease and related dementias in Boca Raton community and surrounding areas as a local and convenient solution for them and their caregivers.
