Kay Carpenter Scholarship Pinning Ceremony Empowers Future Nurses

On September 17, the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing at Florida Atlantic University held its annual Kay Carpenter Scholarship Pinning Ceremony, honoring this year’s Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) scholarship recipients and celebrating the enduring legacy of the late Kay Carpenter.
Established in 2018 through the generosity of B G Carter and Kay Carpenter, the scholarship provides financial support to nursing students while carrying forward Kay’s guiding values of honor, reciprocity and joy.
Dean Cameron Duncan highlighted the scholarship’s impact, sharing, “Since its inception in 2018, the Kay Carpenter Scholarship has helped over 150 students pursue their dreams of becoming nurses, providing more than $400,000 in financial assistance.”
The scholarship reflects the College’s commitment to EMPOWER students with the resources and opportunities they need to succeed, helping them focus on their education and the nurses they aspire to become.
Accelerated BSN student Angelina De La Torre and Freshman Direct Admit BSN student Mondy Robert, served as student speakers during the program.
Angelina De La Torre shared her aspirations, “I want to care for patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives. I want to have the knowledge and critical-thinking skills to respond when seconds matter, while never forgetting about the family standing beside that patient.
Because I know what it feels like to be that family member. And one day, I hope to be the nurse on the other side of that hospital bed… this scholarship isn't simply helping me pay for school. It's helping me get there.”
Mondy Robert expressed her gratitude for the opportunity, “Receiving the Kay Carpenter Scholarship means so much to me. It is not only financial support; it is a reminder that people believe in me, my education, and the impact I can make in the future. I want to thank the founders of this scholarship, B G Carter and the late Kay Carpenter. Their generosity allows students like me to focus on reaching our goals while knowing that others are willing to invest in our success.”
Each scholar received a Kay Carpenter pin, a lasting reminder of her legacy, her values of honor, reciprocity and joy, and the importance of paying it forward.
