Biography

  • Dr. Beth King is an Associate Professor at the Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing, a Fellow in the American Academy of Nursing, a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, a Certified HeartMath® Trainer, and Certified Telehealth Health Provider. She is the Coordinator of the Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner concentration and practices at the Louis and Anne Green Memory and Wellness Center and the FAU/NCHA Community Health Center, nurse managed clinics at Florida Atlantic.
  • Dr. King’s research focuses on mental health issues in vulnerable and often marginalized populations and the development of prevention strategies and improved health outcomes, as well as caring science in nursing education and practice. She is the Project Director of a Health Resources Services Administration grants, Caring-based Community & Academic Relationships for Excellence (CARE): Nurse-led Mobile Health Unit which provides services to underserved populations in collaboration with community partners.
  • Dr. King is the Associate Editor of the Journal of Art and Aesthetics in Nursing and Health Science and author of several publications related to mental health and caring science. Dr. King is the co-author of the Community Nursing Practice Model which grounds her community practice. She is co-author of Nursing Case Studies in Caring: Across the Practice Spectrum, which provides a teaching framework for the study of nursing grounded in caring science.

Teaching

Dr. King teaches in both the undergraduate and graduate program and is the RN-BSN Coordinator for the undergraduate program. She teaches undergraduate Mental Health Nursing and is a Board Certified Clinical Nurse Specialist in Adult Psychiatric & Mental Health and Certified HeartMath® Trainer. She also teaches courses in caring science at both the undergraduate and graduate program. She recently co-authored a book, Nursing Case Studies in Caring: Across the Practice Spectrum.

Research

Dr. King's research interests are in the area of caring science and mental health issues. Her current research focuses on the assessment and measurement of depression and the use of HeartMath® as a nursing intervention. In addition, she is involved in research related to understanding the caring behavior of nursing students and methodology for teaching and evaluating caring science.
