placement Procedures
Student Placement Procedures
- Applicants to the IEI take the OWLSLEY Placement Test online before arrival to the program; the OWLSLEY scores determines an initial RWG and LSP placement level.
- Placement levels may be split with RWG one level and LSP another.
- The Confirmation Diagnostic test takes place during the first day of Student Orientation.This consists of a written response and 1:1 diagnostic conversation with an instructor.
- Placement must be final by the Thursday of the first week and prior to the drop/add date of the session in which the student enters the program.
Student Placement Appeal Procedures
- If a student requests a higher or lower level, direct the student to the Academic Director as soon as possible.
- The Academic Director will review the student’s Confirmation Diagnostic together with the student, confer with the student’s instructor, and explain their placement to the student.
- Alternatively, the Academic Director may allow the student to attend a different level on a trial basis for one day.
- If the instructor and Academic Director agree that the student will benefit from a change to their requested level, the student will be registered in the requested level.
- If the instructor and the Academic Director agree that the student will not benefit from their requested level after their one-day trial the Academic Director will inform the student that the placement will remain according to the Placement Diagnostic. This decision is final.
