Enrollment information:

International students on F-1 visas must enrolled in a full course of study at FAU.

  • Graduate (Master's/PhD) students must be enrolled in a minimum of 9 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester.
  • Undergraduate (Bachelor's) students must be enrolled in a minimum of 12 credit hours each Fall and Spring semester.

International students who are not formally registered in a full course of study may be in violation of immigration laws unless you have an approved Reduced Course Load (RCL) Authorization. Please consult the International Student Services office if you have questions related to registration requirements.

Students are eligible to take no more than 3 credit hours of fully online class per semester. Fully online programs may be only pursued from abroad. Students enrolled in full online programs are not eligible for F1 International Student status.

Students are responsible for registering classes themselves. It's highly recommended to communicate with your academic advisors to discuss the courses you need for your programs.

Information About Holds:

Holds appear on your record when a University office prevents registration. Hold require some action by you before you can register. Before you can register for classes, you will need to clear your holds. 

For example: Intnernational Student Hold (IS). To clear the IS hold, you must first submitted the document request for I-20/DS-2019 and sign up for the mandatory Immigration Orientation and Check-in sessions.
