EARLY ADMISSIONS PROGRAM FOR FLORIDA HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS
Excerpt from Florida Statutes 1007.27, Postsecondary Education--Articulated acceleration mechanisms:
Early admission shall be a form of dual enrollment through which eligible secondary students enroll in a postsecondary institution on a full-time basis in courses that are creditable toward the high school diploma and the associate or baccalaureate degree. Students enrolled pursuant to this subsection shall be exempt from the payment of registration, tuition, and laboratory fees.
The Early Admissions Program enables qualified public, private and home-school students who have completed the junior year to enroll in approved academic courses offered through Florida Atlantic University. If accepted for early admission, the student enters FAU instead of attending high school for the senior year and will spend the fall and spring semesters full time at FAU. The credits that students earn count toward both a high school diploma and a college degree. Early Admissions courses are free to students who attend a Florida public college or university; this includes registration, tuition, and fees. Instructional materials (textbooks) are provided to public school students free of charge through the School Districts of Palm Beach and Broward Counties; however, students enrolled in home education programs or nonpublic secondary schools must provide their own instructional materials.
When enrolled in an Early Admissions Program, students may only register for courses approved by the high school counselor and Early Admissions advisor at Florida Atlantic University.
To continue in the Early Admissions Program, students must earn a minimum grade of "C" (2.0 GPA) in each course which they are registered for.
