The Center for Teaching and Learning (CTL) at Florida Atlantic University is dedicated to ensuring the academic success of every student and to providing faculty the necessary tools and resources to excel in teaching. Our ultimate goal is the creation of a culture of engagement, where students become fully engaged in the learning process, both with their instructors and with their peers; and where faculty from diverse disciplines can engage one another in the pedagogy of teaching, with the ultimate goal of enhancing student learning.
The CTL, located in General Classroom South 2nd floor, provides a variety of support services to help students succeed. The Math Learning Center provides free math tutoring to students on a drop-in basis as well as appointments and online support. The University Center for Excellence in Writing provides appointment-based support to help all members of the University community to enhance their writing, not only on the Boca Raton Campus, but also on the Broward Campuses, Jupiter, and online. The Center for Learning And Student Success (CLASS) provides free Supplemental Instruction, tutoring, and other support to students in courses throughout the Boca Raton and Broward campuses. Online support is also available. CLASS also provides a variety of programs to support students in their academic journey, from learning community programs to success workshops.
The Mentoring Project is a brand new, collaborative initiative between the Division of Academic Affairs and Student Affairs focusing on the utilization of mentors to meet the needs of students. Mentors will assist their mentees with transitioning to college life, excelling academically and socially, as well as connecting mentees to all of the opportunities FAU has to offer. Specifically, the “Connections” mentoring initiative (offered by The Mentoring Project) is designed to connect first-year and transfer students with a mentor who is a member of the FAU community (faculty, staff, or peer). Departmentally-based mentoring opportunities are offered across the FAU campus and will also be highlighted by The Mentoring Project.
To enhance teaching, faculty development is coordinated by the Director for the Scholarship of Teaching within the CTL. Faculty learning communities, collaboration with eLearning and a Master Teacher program engage faculty across all campuses on a variety of topics regarding pedagogy.
Office for Undergraduate Research and Inquiry
provides additional opportunities through the CTL to engage undergraduate students in research and inquiry with graduate students and faculty.
