Marc Decker

Marc Decker is an Assistant Professor of Music and the Associate Director of Bands at Florida Atlantic University where his primary duties include directing the Marching Owls, ‘Parliament Sound’ Pep Band, and Symphony Band.  Before arriving at Florida Atlantic University, Dr. Decker served as Director of Bands at American University in Washington, DC, and afterwards as Director of Instrumental Music at Northwestern Oklahoma State University.  In both positions he successfully recruited and doubled participation in instrumental ensembles, strengthened the relationship between the university and regional school bands, and established a sense of identity and community within the band and music programs.

Dr. Decker earned his B.M.E. from the University of Illinois and went on to his first teaching position at the coastal town of South Haven, MI, where his bands earned superior ratings at marching and concert contests. He holds both an M.A. and D.M.A. from the University of Iowa, where he studied conducting with Richard Mark Heidel and drill design with Kevin Kastens.

Dr. Decker is an active arranger, drill writer, guest conductor, and adjudicator.  He recently presented at national conferences on recruiting strategies for college bands and cultivating student leadership.  In addition, he has conducted honor bands and served as an adjudicator throughout the nation. His professional affiliations include the College Band Directors National Association, National Association for Music Education, National Band Association, Pi Kappa Lambda, and Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
