Office of Technology Development Internship Program

Overview

The Office of Technology Development offers paid opportunities for students to gain real-world experience and explore alternative career paths in the field of technology transfer where university research is protected and commercialized for public benefit. Interns will learn how to evaluate new innovations, secure intellectual property protection, and develop commercialization strategies to transition from lab to market. Mentoring from experienced professionals in law, business, marketing, science, and technology will be provided.

Goals

  • Collaborate on business plans for startup companies
  • Obtain experience and skills to support future career objectives
Commitment

Students must be able to commit to working approximately 10 hours per week during the fall or spring semester. Most intern activities will take place remotely with occasional opportunities to attend in-person meetings and events. An internship may be extended for multiple semesters if a student exhibits exceptional performance.

Qualifications

Internships are available for undergraduate and graduate students of all majors. Strong written and verbal communication skills are required. Demonstrated interest in intellectual property, business development, entrepreneurship, marketing, social media, or graphic design is preferred. Work study students are eligible to apply.
