Ami Krasner DVM, Ph.D.
Email: krasnera@fau.edu
Mentor: Oscar Ale Aleuy
Affiliation: Charles E. Schmidt College of Science
Krasner earned both her undergraduate and Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degrees from North Carolina State University. After several years practicing small animal medicine and volunteering with marine animals in the Washington, D.C., area, Krasner relocated to Melbourne, Florida, to pursue a doctorate focused on the impacts of the algal toxin domoic acid on sea lion kidneys. As a postdoctoral fellow in Aleuy's lab, she is excited to shift her focus to another One Health threat: describing highly pathogenic avian influenza in Indian River Lagoon dolphins. Outside of work, Krasner enjoys living on the Space Coast, where she can see rocket launches, dolphins, manatees and mangroves — sometimes all on the same day.
