An individual could utilize their sick and vacation leave for time off. If the absence meets the criteria for Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), this allows eligible employees to take job-protected leave for specified family and medical reasons with continuation of group health insurance coverage. Under FMLA, time off may be paid or unpaid. All leave questions should be directed to the HR Benefits team.

Are postdocs eligible for bonuses?

How long can postdocs stay in their position?

The FAU Postdoctoral Fellow Policy states that postdoc positions are typically up to three years but can be extended up to six years. It is important to know that a postdoc position is considered a temporary/training position — not a career in itself. Staying in the position does not do service to the postdoc scholar. Staying too long can send unfavorable signals to future employers.
