COVID-19 Update

Florida Atlantic University

Given the widespread availability of vaccines and treatments, and in consultation with public health officials, FAU is ending its COVID-19 protocols. The effective date of this change is Friday, May 6.

From this date, employees and students no longer need to report a positive test or symptoms to Student Health Services. FAU will now treat COVID-19 similar to other contagious viruses while monitoring all public health concerns that might necessitate an immediate response.

COVID-19 cases will likely rise and fall for the foreseeable future. It remains everyone’s responsibility to Protect Your Owl Family . Following safety recommendations and guidance will help limit the ongoing effects of COVID-19, the flu and similar viruses on our campuses, as well as locally and across the country.

If you are sick, stay home (COVID-19 symptoms). Anyone who tests positive for COVID-19 or is in close contact with a confirmed case of COVID-19 should follow the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) quarantine and isolation guidelines or the advice of their treating physician. Testing locations remain available throughout the county and state of Florida.

Student Health Services offers COVID-19 and other general visits for students on the Boca Raton, Davie and Jupiter campuses (charges apply), and an after-hours nurse access line for additional medical concerns. Call 561-297-3512 (after hours select option 3). Employees should visit their primary care provider, local urgent care or emergency room, if needed for illness.

All members of the university community are encouraged to get vaccinated against COVID-19 or receive booster shots (as guidance indicates) if previously vaccinated. Information on receiving the vaccine is available on the state’s COVID-19 Vaccine Locator webpage and the CDC offers additional detail on the benefits of the vaccine.

Additional information for students, faculty and staff is available on the following FAU websites:

FAU will continue to monitor COVID-19 and share information as needed. Questions should be directed to the above University departments and external organizations as appropriate.
