Accurate Pain Measure for People with Cognitive Challenges

The goal of this study is to measure your chronic pain accurately by monitoring your brain signals using electroencephalography (EEG)

To participate in the study, you must:

  • be 50 years or older
  • be living at home (not institutionalized)
  • be diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease or a related dementia (such as Parkinson’s disease, vascular dementia, Lewy body dementia, frontotemporal dementia)
  • have chronic pain of mild to moderate intensity associated with a medical condition (such as osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, low back pain, joint/muscle pain, or chronic nonmalignant pain)
  • However, if you have a history of brain surgery, brain tumor, seizure, stroke, or advanced stage of Alzheimer’s disease, you will not be eligible to participate in the study.

Other Information:

Study activities will take approximately 2 hours

Both you and your caregiver will receive a $50 gift card for participation

Study will take place at Florida Atlantic University, Boca Raton Campus (FAU’s Clinical Research Unit, EEG Suite, first floor of Office Building One, ME-104). We will provide a map to get to the FAU Clinical Research Unit.
