FAU provides a variety of software to students, faculty, and staff to aide in the research process.
Productivity Software
Microsoft Office
FAU participates in the Microsoft Advantage program, which provides the latest full versions of Microsoft Office to all students, faculty and staff members free of charge.
Owl Apps (Google Apps)
Google Apps have similar functions to Microsoft Office products. FAU students, faculty, and staff can log in to Google Apps with their FAU login to access these resources.
Statistical Analysis Software
SPSS
FAU has a site license for SPSS. This means that SPSS software can be installed on all University-owned faculty or staff computers, faculty and staff personally owned computers, and student-owned computers. SPSS may also be run virtually via Virtual Apps.
SPSS Installation Instructions
SAS
The SAS license follows the fiscal year - July 1 to June 30. The purchase date does not impact the expiration date of the license key and the license cost is not pro-rated. The license key will expire on June 30 each year regardless of when it was purchased.
Qualitative Data Analysis Software
Atlas.ti
This is a qualitative data analysis tool which organizes all the text data from interviews / focus groups in one place. This software is available through the Virtual Apps at FAU.
Citation / Reference Manager Software
Endnote
FAU faculty, staff and students have free access to EndNote Web Basic.
Zotero
This software works with any text editor to annotate and cite research. Your personal research assistant. It is available for free download.
Mendeley
Useful for managing references and citing articles. Free download available.
Software for Data Collection
Qualtrics
This software is used to design surveys for research studies. It also provides data analysis and visualization of the collected data. Available to the FAU community for free.
REDCap
REDCap is a secure web application for building and managing online surveys and databases. While REDCap can be used to collect virtually any type of data (including 21 CFR Part 11, FISMA, and HIPAA-compliant environments), it is specifically geared to support online or offline data capture for research studies and operations. Available to the FAU community for free.
Microsoft Forms
This software is useful for creating surveys. It has limited tools for data analysis and visualization. Available through subscription to Microsoft Office.
Frevvo
Frevvo is an online point-and-click platform that allow users to quickly automate online forms, as well to create approval workflows. With this application, users can create online forms and streamlined workflows with almost no code.
