Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum

Cultivating Knowledge. Conserving Nature.

About the Arboretum

The Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum at Florida Atlantic University serves as a living laboratory, community greenspace and educational hub for students, faculty, researchers and the greater northern Palm Beach County community. Established in 2004 in honor of the late Robert J. Huckshorn, Ph.D., vice president emeritus, the arboretum preserves native Florida ecosystems while advancing experiential learning, sustainability initiatives and collaborative research.

Featuring native trees and shrubs that support wildlife and pollinators, the arboretum reflects the ecological diversity of our region. Winding pathways and thoughtfully placed benches invite visitors to explore, reflect, and connect with the natural environment.

As an outdoor classroom, the arboretum extends learning beyond traditional academic spaces, enriching the student experience through hands-on engagement with Florida’s natural landscape.

Mission

The Robert J. Huckshorn Arboretum advances environmental education, native plant conservation and community engagement through stewardship of a living landscape on Florida Atlantic’s Jupiter campus.

The arboretum showcases a curated collection of Florida native plant species that reflect the ecological diversity of our region. These species support pollinators, birds, and local wildlife while demonstrating sustainable landscaping practices appropriate for South Florida.
