Congratulations on being accepted to Florida Atlantic University!

We are delighted that you are considering making Florida Atlantic University your educational and social destination. Florida Atlantic University offers a transformative education that prepares students for success in a rapidly changing world. Through cutting-edge research, the University tackles some of humanity’s most challenging problems, addressing issues that impact Florida, our nation and beyond.

May 1 is the tuition deposit and housing application deadline for 2020 entering students.

While May 1 is the deadline to submit your deposit we know in these uncertain times students may need additional time to make their college choice – and potentially commit to FAU. The OwlDone portal will be kept open until June 1 for students who may need additional time, however on and after May 2 students who go to apply for housing on both the Boca and Jupiter (Honors College) campuses will be able to place their name on a waiting list. We currently have more demand than available beds.

If you are pell eligible and qualify, your admissions deposit may be waived. Please complete this form for consideration.

The sooner a student submits their tuition deposit, the sooner they can complete the online advising module (OARS), register for classes and reserve their spot for Orientation (SOAR). Summer and fall class registration began on April 13th.

We know that you have questions about our fall semester operations. As information becomes available we will communicate with our incoming students and families.

Please review our Keep Learning page designed to help FAU students and future students navigate this period and into the future where online classes may work best in their busy schedules or be taught by a professor they desire. If you may be shopping for a new computer for college this site has specifications of computers that you should review.

Every spring we host thousands of admitted students on our beautiful campus. This year we hosted our annual Choose FAU event online. We invite you to watch our recording of this live event below. You’ll also find a list of frequently asked questions to help guide you through becoming a new Owl. If you have additional question, contact our Admissions Office at 561-297-3040.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I select roommates? What is the assignment process?

New incoming first year students may request a roommate that they know by emailing housing@fau.edu from their FAU student email account, please include your name and the full name of your requested roommate.  Both students must send a separate email request.  The original deadline was April 1 and has extended to May 1st to align with the Housing application deadline.   Roommate requests take priority over room type preferences that are submitted with your housing application. Housing and Residential Education highly discourages students from searching for roommates through social media outlets.   Roommate and room type preferences are not guaranteed, however we make every effort to match these when possible.

When will housing assignments be released? How will I know when housing assignments have been released?
  1. Housing assignments are released on a rolling basis, starting in early June from the order in which they were received. The housing application opened on December 1, so students who applied early will likely get their assignment information before students who applied in early April. Emails are sent to your FAU student email address with the housing assignment. You will be able to view your roommate and suite-mate information through the housing portal.
  2. MAY 1 is the housing application deadline. We anticipate having a higher demand for on-campus housing than we have spaces available. It is possible that we will not be able to house students who apply for housing after May 1. Students who are from within 30 miles of campus and are part of the Academic Pathways Program or Engineering Bridge Program will be placed in housing as space permits
Housing application – how can I make changes?

Email housing at housing@fau.edu

What are the requirements to live on campus housing? How do I apply to be a freshman and not live on campus?

Students who live outside of 30 miles are required to live on campus if they are attending the Boca Raton campus.  If you are from outside 30 miles and wish to apply for an exemption to the housing requirement please complete the exemption form with the required documentation and return to housing@fau.edu.  The exemption form is online at http://www.fau.edu/housing/pdf/first-year-student-exemption-request-form.pdf  Students who are accepted to Wilkes Honors College at the FAU Jupiter campus are required to live on-campus for their first two years.  You may request an exemption to the on-campus requirement for Wilkes Honors College and return the completed form and documentation to jupiterhousing@fau.edu.  The Wilkes Exemption form is available at http://www.fau.edu/housing/pdf/2020117-jupiter-housing-exemption-form.pdf.

How is summer housing going to work? Move in dates?
  1. Due to COVID-19 summer housing is only available to students who have extenuating circumstances and require on-campus housing. Please email housing@fau.edu for instructions on how to request summer housing. Move-in is August 20th for the fall term, for first year students.
  2. The academic calendar can be found here
What is the Academic Success Pathway?

The FAU pathways are opportunities for students to ease into their college career by enrolling part-time in the fall semester only. This allows for a greater focus on the rigors of college coursework. This means students enroll in 11 credits or less. Financial Aid is pro-rated, and Pathway students are 100% FAU students. The fall term is the only semester in which part-time status required. Students were notified in their acceptance letter if they are a part of a Pathway. Find all the details on our pathway programs here.

How do I change my entry term? I’ve been accepted to summer but want to come for Fall.

Admission is term specific based on your academic credentials presented at the time of submission. We are not accepting change of entry terms from summer to fall. However, if you were accepted for the fall term and want to start in the summer, you can complete a change of entry form here.

What is OARS? How/where do I complete my OARS?
  • OARS (Online Advising and Resource System) is a preliminary advising module where you will share all of your academic coursework such as Dual Enrolment or Advanced Placement. Once the OARS is submitted, an academic advisor will be in touch with you to make any changes and then you can register for classes. OARS is completed online through your owldone.fau.edu portal. Class registration is a separate step once the OARS is approved by your advisor. Class registration for summer and fall is open now.
  • After OARS is complete and approved, what if I have questions? Students can email the advisor who approved their OARS with any questions. Please allow 5-10 business days for the advising to be completed and sent back to the student.
How do I change my major?
  • For admitted students you will request to change your major through OARS. Some majors are restricted, selective and full, such as Nursing and Pre-Architecture. Students cannot request a major change into these programs.
  • Majors in the College of Engineering & Computer Science and the College of Science have some additional requirements to meet for entry as well.
How do I register for Summer Classes/which classes do I take?

Complete OARS (described above). Once the OARS is submitted, an academic advisor will be in touch with you to make any changes and then you can register for classes.

How does it work with my dual enrollment credits? Does that effect my FAU GPA?

You will need to submit your official college transcripts to FAU. Your dual enrollment courses will be calculated into your overall FAU GPA. These transcripts should be sent ASAP after coursework is complete to the FAU Office of Admissions.

I have AP credits, what do I do? How do I get credit for them? What about AICE?
  • You will request to have your AP credits sent to FAU through the College Board website.
  • AICE, IB and other exam credits should also be sent to FAU. Here are the instructions.
How do I apply for scholarships?

The deadline for merit-based scholarship consideration from FAU was January 15th. However, it is important to make sure your FAFSA has been submitted to FAU as there is an opportunity for federal aid that you could receive. It is not too late to file the FAFSA. If you are entering FAU in the Summer 3 term be sure to complete BOTH the 2019-2020 FAFSA. Students entering FAU in the Fall should complete the 2020-2021 FAFSA. Go to FAFSA.gov. In addition, you can apply for additional scholarship opportunities here.

How will orientation work? What are the dates?

For students entering in the summer term, orientation will be completed in a four-phase (virtual) process. For students entering in the fall term, we are currently planning for in-person programming and recommend the Premium Experience. For more details and dates, click here.

How do I reserve my spot for orientation?

All new incoming students are required to complete orientation. Orientation at FAU is known as SOAR (Student Orientation, Academics & Resources). To reserve your spot (spaces are first come, first serve) login to owldone.fau.edu and follow the reservation form in the SOAR module.

When will the orientation hold be removed?

The orientation hold is automatically lifted within two hours of payment submission.

  • OR hold for incoming freshmen with 29 credits or less post high school
  • OT hold for transfers with 30+ credits post high school
How do I verify that I am a Florida resident?

All students claiming Florida resident status for tuition paying purposes need to work with their parent/guardian to complete the residency affidavit that can be found here: http://www.owlres.fau.edu

How do I finalize my admissions file?
  • All first-year students are required to send official SAT/ACT scores from the testing agency to FAU before classes begin. Most students self-report their scores as a part of the admissions application process – now those scores have to be validated by students sending an official score report. This can be done through act.org or collegeboard.org
  • In addition, all students are required to send official high school transcripts with proof of graduation to FAU before fall classes begin. Usually transcripts have the graduation date on them, so that is necessary proof.
  • Dual Enrollment transcripts from the college that granted the credit also need to be send to the Office of Admissions
  • Any / all credit earned by taking an exam should also be send to the Office of Admissions.
  • Transfer students are required to send transcripts from all institutions attended, with final courses and grades to finalize their file.
How does advising work for transfer students?

Students who are transferring from another institution with an AA degree or over 30 credits will be advised by their department/college. This takes place after admission and submitting the tuition deposit.
