First-Year Student Orientation, Academics and Resources (SOAR) program at FAU shares important information with students and their families regarding academic and student services as well as what it means to be an Owl. We are committed to providing all incoming students the resources to be successful as they enter the university setting. We strive to provide excellent student experiences and knowledge about Florida Atlantic University (FAU) by way of intentional and specific programming for first-year students, transfer students and their families. Our Orientations are designed with these goals in mind.
Each session has limited space available, and is filled on a first-come, first-served basis. SOAR reservations are NOT confirmed until the orientation fee payment has been submitted. SOAR reservations close automatically once they reach full capacity. Reservations close three (3) business days before a session starts. Please do not make any travel arrangements until you have completed your reservation, paid your SOAR fee, and have received a confirmation email in your FAU inbox or spam. All SOAR session dates are not available to all students and are based on term of entry.
Students have options for completing the Orientation requirement. Please refer to the Premium and Basic tracks below:
Premium Track: Two-day, on campus experience. $110 fee for students and $75 fee per family member. An optional $46 housing overnight stay can be added on to the student experience (night of event) which will include linens and a light breakfast on day two. If you would like to stay the night before the start of SOAR, you may opt into a $38 optional housing overnight stay.
First-Year Orientation is a once and a lifetime experience. You should feel proud that you have made it to this step and be part of an experience that will acclimate you to the culture of your new home! The Premium Track includes tours of Campus Recreation, Schmidt Family complex, and the campus with your academic schedule. Students will receive promotional materials and FAU swag from Student Alumni Association and other partners accompanied by special guest appearances from FAU VIPs (maybe even Owlsley or Hoot!), faculty, and a meet and greet with FAU Athletics!
Attendees of the Premium Track will also receive community discounts, perks, and local resources as well as meal vouchers (lunch and dinner on Day 1) and snacks, technology (Owl Guides application), space, equipment rental, orientation staff, and other materials.
Basic Track: 4 hour Virtual Orientation + a one-day, on campus experience. $35 fee for students and $50 fee per family member. Optional overnight stay is not available for this track.
The basic option is for students and families expressing hardship or those who have extenuating circumstances. This program meets minimum requirements of the state for an orientation program.
