Ceremony Spring 2024 Commencement

How

Graduation and Commencement are two separate functions and have separate processes and deadlines. You must apply to graduate in order to receive your degree and diploma; however, you do not have to physically attend the commencement ceremony.

If you are graduating and want to attend the commencement ceremony and receive guest tickets, please be mindful of the deadline to submit an Application for Degree and the deadline to RSVP to the Ceremony which are listed below:

  • Application for Degree deadline for Spring 2024 is January 26, 2024.
  • Graduates will receive an email invitation in their FAU email account by 5pm on February 23, 2024.
  • Graduates must RSVP to the Registrar's Office by March 17, 2024 if they intend to participate in the ceremony
  • Everyone should reply to the email whether or not they plan to attend the ceremony.

When

The Spring 2024 ceremonies will be held on Thursday, May 2, Friday, May 3 and Saturday, May 4.  The Commencement Ceremony will last approximately two hours. In order to maintain an orderly and dignified ceremony, one that you and your fellow classmates will want to remember, all graduates and their guests are expected to be present for the entire ceremony. As you make your decision concerning your attendance at Commencement, please keep this in mind.

Graduate Check-In/Procession

Degree candidates should report to the Live Oak Pavilion 1 hour before the beginning of the ceremony. The Live Oak Pavilion is located across from Parking Garage 1 and can also be accessed through the Student Union. For further directions, please use the campus map.

The procession of graduates begins 20 minutes before the start of your ceremony. To ensure you are able to walk in the procession we strongly advise you arrive 1 hour early. For example, if your ceremony is at 12:00pm, the procession of graduates will start at 11:40am. Please plan accordingly so you do not miss any part of your special day. Should you arrive after the procession has started, you will be seated directly in the auditorium with your fellow graduates.

ACCOMMODATIONS: Please notify the Registrar's Office at commencement@fau.edu or call (561) 297-2209 at least 10 days prior to the ceremony if you, as a student participating in the ceremony, will require an accommodation due to a disability.

Guest Arrival and Security

Arrival: Doors to the auditorium open 1 hour ahead of the ceremony. Guests are strongly encouraged to arrive early and allow for adequate time to park and pass through the security screening. Guests arriving 20 minutes before the ceremony will be delayed from entering the auditorium until the procession of graduates concludes.

Security: All bags and personal belongings will be inspected upon entering the Student Union. As such, please bring only essential items to the graduation ceremony. We suggest the use of clear plastic/vinyl bags to help speed the security checking process. Plan your arrival to ensure adequate time to go through security.
