Weekend Wrap-Up

Monday, Feb 27, 2023

Many exciting events and activities are taking place at Florida Atlantic, and I am enjoying these opportunities to engage with our community.

On Thursday, Feb. 23, I joined Vice President and Director of Athletics Brian White to serve pizza to students who attended the men’s basketball game at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena. We also handed out t-shirts and cheered the Owls to victory as they defeated UTSA 106-66.

On Friday, Feb. 24, I had the honor of serving as a judge for the seventh annual Three Minute Thesis Competition, hosted by the FAU Graduate College. Each year, this event challenges students across disciplines to pitch their research findings in a presentation no longer than three minutes. Congratulations to Meghan Hanley, Hayley Knapp, Diana Fedderman, Amish Mishra and Dawn Raja Somu, who will all be moving on to compete in the 3MTâ Championship.

On Saturday, Feb. 25, the men’s basketball team celebrated another important victory during its last home game of the season. By defeating UTEP 75-49, the team clinched its first ever Conference USA regular season title and achieved a perfect 17-0 record at the Eleanor R. Baldwin Arena, marking the first time in university history that the team has been undefeated at home. The Owls have played an incredible season thus far and we are very proud of their success. I look forward to cheering them on in the Conference USA championship tournament, which begins March 8.

Go Owls!
