As a result, the following also is in effect:

  • All events on all campuses are canceled for Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10.
  • Campus shuttle routes will suspend operations for Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10; Boca Raton hotel residents should monitor communications from the Division of Student Affairs for any changes to the bus service from the hotel locations to campus.

  • The Student Union and Campus Rec on all campuses will be closed Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10.
  • Residents are asked to bring their bicycles into their residences and those with vehicles are encouraged to fill up their gas tanks in case they have to leave campus. All residents are strongly encouraged to remain indoors during the storm.
  • Employees who work remotely should continue to do so for both Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10.
  • Essential personnel should communicate with their respective supervisors regarding reporting assignments for Wednesday, Nov. 9 and Thursday, Nov. 10.
As of 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 8, Tropical Storm Nicole is expected to strengthen throughout the day as it approaches Florida’s east coast and could make landfall as a Category 1 hurricane. There is increasing risk of damaging wind for much of South Florida beginning Wednesday. Excessive rainfall and flooding are possible over parts of the region both Wednesday and Thursday, with significant coastal impacts including high seas, rough surf and beach erosion throughout the remainder of the week.

FAU officials are in contact with the appropriate local and state agencies. Students, faculty and staff should monitor all communication channels, including the University status page (www.fau.edu/advisory), the FAU homepage (www.fau.edu), the FAU hotline 1-888-8FAUOWL (832-8695), email, text, phone and local media outlets.

For more information about preparing for and responding to hurricanes, such as unit emergency planning, creating emergency kits, and FAU action guides on weather events, visit the FAU Department of Emergency Management website.

Additionally, in observation of Veterans Day on Friday, Nov. 11, FAU offices will be closed and no classes will be held. On this day off from work or school, I hope that you will take a moment to express your gratitude to the veterans in your life. Thank you to all of our military veterans, active service members and military families for your dedicated service to our nation. Have a safe and happy Veterans Day!
