In Memory of Head Coach Capri Grotowski

Monday, Jun 27, 2022

On Saturday, we learned the sad news that Florida Atlantic University’s head coach for beach volleyball, Capri Grotowski, passed away at the age of 38. Coach Grotowski was beloved by her team and the many student-athletes she served since joining the University in 2014. In April 2021, she celebrated her 100th career win on her 37th birthday. Her all-time coaching record stands at an impressive 128-86.

Throughout her career, Coach Grotowski’s impeccable leadership and outstanding character helped establish the “Sandy Owls” as one of the top ranked beach volleyball programs in the nation. She was named the 2022 Conference USA Coach of the Year after leading the team to a record-setting 23 wins and a historic NCAA Championship appearance. Ultimately, the team advanced to the Elite Eight and achieved the No. 8 ranking in the AVCA and CVBV national polls.

Coach Grotowski is survived by her husband, FAU assistant coach Steve Grotowski, and their two children. I offer my deepest condolences to their family, as well as all those who are mourning her loss at this difficult time. She will be greatly missed, but her legacy will continue to have a tremendous impact here at FAU.
