Today, the FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute received a generous $1 million gift from Palm Health Foundation to launch the new Program in Computational Brain Science and Health (PCBSH). The gift was announced during Palm Health Foundation’s Train the Brain virtual event featuring keynote speaker Arthur Evans, Ph.D., CEO of the American Psychological Association and a proud FAU alumnus.

Palm Health Foundation is a fundraising and grantmaking organization that supports health equity for Palm Beach County residents of all backgrounds, incomes and states of well-being. Over the past 20 years, the Foundation has invested more than $85 million in helping residents reach their full health potential. The $1 million gift was awarded through the Foundation’s Brain Health Innovation Fund, which supports new technologies, treatments, resources and educational tools to advance brain health. Specifically, it will provide for the recruitment of a prominent computational neuroscientist to lead the PCBSH, as well as activities such as the computational training of Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute neuroscience graduate students; advanced technologies needed for faculty research; and resources to foster collaborative research among FAU computer scientists, neuroscientists and brain health specialists.

FAU is very proud of its longstanding partnership with Palm Health Foundation. Our collaboration has resulted in a number of events and programs for the benefit of our community, including the annual Brainy Days every March, which is a monthlong celebration of neuroscience, and the Train the Brain community brain health campaign.

We truly appreciate this gift from Palm Health Foundation, which will help transform our Jupiter campus into a world-class center of neurological and mental health research, education and community engagement. The FAU Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, a 58,000-square-foot neuroscience building, is scheduled to open in spring 2022. For more information, visit www.fau.edu/ibrain.
