Yesterday, the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine awarded 56 Doctor of Medicine  degrees, 28 master’s degrees and two doctoral degrees during a commencement ceremony on the Boca Raton campus. It marked the 10th graduating class of M.D. students at Florida Atlantic, as well as the first college-wide commencement ceremony celebrating the achievements of all medical and biomedical students together.

Among the Class of 2024, 48% of M.D. graduates will conduct their residency in Florida and 41% will specialize in primary care. The graduates also matched in highly competitive medical specialties such as psychiatry, orthopedic surgery, dermatology, plastic surgery, urology, and a triple board specialty in pediatrics, psychiatry and child psychiatry. Additionally, several exemplary graduates were inducted into esteemed organizations including the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society and the Gold Humanism Honor Society, which recognize medical students for excellence in scholarship, service and commitment to their profession.

The ceremony’s keynote address was delivered by Nicolas Heft, M.D. ’19, an emergency medicine physician, graduate of the United States Air Force Special Warfare Medical Officer Course, and co-founder and inaugural fellow of the University of Texas Houston Space Medicine Fellowship. We were honored to hear from Dr. Heft as he shared his extraordinary experiences and inspired our graduates to overcome limitations and forge a path of service in medicine.

As members of the Class of 2024 continue their academic and professional journeys, they represent the very best in the future of health care and scientific research. We were proud to celebrate their moment of high accomplishment during commencement and I wish them all the best in their next chapter.

Congratulations, MedOwls!
