men's basketball team

The men’s basketball team’s season came to a close yesterday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. The No. 8 seed Owls fell to No. 9 seed Northwestern in overtime at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

The Owls had a great first season in the American Athletic Conference, playing in front of sold-out crowds at every home game. They finished 14-4 in regular season conference play and 25-9 overall. The team entered the NCAA Tournament with the 16th best scoring offense in the nation at 82.5 points per game. In the past two years, the Owls won 60 games, the third most in Division I basketball.

Thank you to the fans who supported the team all season long — especially those who joined me in New York to cheer the Owls on in the NCAA Tournament. And congratulations again to the men’s basketball team for making it to the Big Dance for the third time in school history.
