FAU joins the entire community in mourning the loss of our longtime friend and university supporter Harvey Sandler, who passed away on January 1. Harvey’s incredible generosity was inspiring to all who knew him.

Harvey and his wife, Phyllis, have a history of bettering the lives of others through their immensely generous patronage of healthcare and education. Their friendship and support have been paramount to FAU’s success, especially our School of Social Work, which is making a difference in the lives of countless people in our area. In 2017, FAU received a spectacular $7 million gift from Phyllis and Harvey, to name The Phyllis and Harvey Sandler School of Social Work within the College for Design and Social Inquiry. Additionally, they gave $250,000 to name the Phyllis and Harvey Sandler Student-Athlete Lounge in the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence. They also have given generously to Boca Raton Regional Hospital and the Jewish Federation.  Click here for Harvey's full obituary .

I want to extend my most sincere sympathy to Phyllis, as well as Harvey’s five children, 17 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Harvey’s generous spirit, commitment to service, and love for FAU were inspiring to all who knew him, and made an especially deep impact on Carolyn and me. We will miss him terribly, but we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will live on through his many philanthropic endeavors, which will continue to touch countless lives in our community for generations to come.
