History of Owlsley on Display at the Wimberly Library

Wednesday, Jul 26, 2023

The S.E. Wimberly Library on the Boca Raton campus recently introduced a permanent display of four generations of Florida Atlantic’s beloved owl mascot. As part of the library’s Special Collections, the exhibit showcases the mascot’s evolution over the years, from a “wise old owl” in academic regalia to the athletic Owlsley of the 2000s. Following an extensive professional restoration process, including the creation of custom wooden skeletons to “wear” the costumes, the mascots now stand proudly in glass cases for all to enjoy.

With FAU’s recent move to the American Athletic Conference, this Owlsley display offers a unique glimpse into the journey of the Owls’ identity and traditions as we enter a new and exciting era of athletic excellence. I encourage our community and visitors to stop by the fifth floor of the library to see this special part of FAU history first-hand. Click here for more information.

To meet Owlsley in person, be sure to attend a football game this season. Our home opener is Saturday, September 2 against Monmouth University at FAU Stadium.

Go Owls!
