February is Black/African American History Month, a time for our nation to commemorate the extraordinary contributions of African Americans on our history and culture. The annual celebration is in full swing here at FAU, with a number of free events taking place all month long, including performances, discussions, and exhibitions.  Click here  to view the full schedule of events.

As we honor the achievements of African Americans, I’m reminded of the rich diversity we enjoy here at FAU. When this university opened its doors in 1964, a number of institutions nationwide were struggling to become integrated. From its earliest days, FAU has proudly served students from many different racial and ethnic groups, and today we are one of the most diverse institutions in the nation.

I hope everyone has an opportunity to participate in at least one of our many upcoming Black History Month events, to celebrate both African Americans’ many contributions to our nation and the world, and the diversity that makes FAU so special.
