Last week, we celebrated the opening of the Avron B. Fogelman Sports Memorabilia Museum in the Schmidt Family Complex for Academic and Athletic Excellence. Generously donated by former Kansas City Royals owner Avron Fogelman and his wife, Wendy, the total gift is valued at more than $10 million, including more than 500 pieces of memorabilia. It is the fifth largest one-time donation in the university’s history.

I have been anticipating the museum’s opening with great excitement, ever since I first learned that Avron planned to donate his extensive sports memorabilia collection to the university. His passion for sports history truly is contagious, and the 3,500 square-foot museum is a welcome addition to our ever-growing Boca Raton campus. It will provide a source of both entertainment and education for our students and members of our community – not only on some of the most memorable moments in sports history – but also on some of the most historically significant events here in the United States and around the world.

Thank you Avron and Wendy, for your generosity, for your dedication to lifelong learning, and for entrusting FAU with your prized collection. The Fogelman Sports Memorabilia Museum will be a tremendous point of pride for the university, now and for years to come.
