Dusty May Named Grand Marshal for NASCAR’s Coke Zero Sugar 400

Friday, Aug 25, 2023

Florida Atlantic Head Men’s Basketball Coach Dusty May will serve as Grand Marshal for the Coke Zero Sugar 400, the final race of the NASCAR Cup Series regular season. The race will take place at Daytona International Speedway this Saturday, Aug. 26 at 7 p.m. Coach May will deliver the famous command for drivers to start their engines just before the green flag drops and the race begins.

May’s invitation follows a historic season for FAU basketball in which he led the Owls to the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament and was named the 2022-23 CBS Sports Coach of the Year. Additionally, he established a winning record of 101-60, making him the Owl's all-time leader in coaching wins.

Joining May as pre-race dignitaries, Supercross Champion Ricky Carmichael will serve as Honorary Pace Car Driver and United States Swimming Olympian Bobby Finke will attend as an honorary guest on behalf of Coca-Cola.

We are incredibly proud of Coach May for ushering the Owls into a new era of athletic excellence and continuing to represent Florida Atlantic on the national stage. I look forward to watching him serve as Grand Marshal in Daytona tomorrow and I encourage everyone to tune in for this exciting moment for our community.

Go Owls!
