Welcome, President Kelly!

The search for the seventh president of Florida Atlantic University came to a conclusion on Friday, Jan. 17, when the Board of Trustees voted unanimously to award the position to Dr. John Kelly. Thanks to the Board and the search committee for conducting a transparent, inclusive and very successful search. Dr. Kelly is currently Vice President for Economic Development and Director of Public Service Activities at Clemson University, where he has served with distinction as a faculty member and key administrator over a period of 28 years. During his tenure, Clemson has risen from 78th to 21st in the U.S. News & World Report rankings of all public universities nationally.

Dr. Kelly’s background has provided him with experience that promises to make him a strong and effective leader of FAU. He is dedicated to student success and said during the interview process that helping students move toward graduation in a timely manner will be one of his top priorities. He also has comprehensive understanding of the vital role that increased research activities will play in the growth of FAU, and he expressed special interest in deepening the University’s involvement with Scripps Florida and the Max Planck Florida Institute for Neuroscience. Additionally, he has excellent communication skills and will lose no time in reaching out to FAU’s friends in the community, including alumni, donors and business organizations.

On behalf of the students, faculty and staff of FAU, I want to extend congratulations and a very warm welcome to Dr. Kelly. He has an impressive track record of success in higher education, and I’m sure that will continue during his years at FAU. We’re very glad that he’ll soon take his place as the No. 1 fan in Owl Nation!
