Tuesday, Nov 15, 2022

Congratulations to Florida Atlantic University’s Randy Blakely, Ph.D., who has received the prestigious 2022 Science Educator Award from the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) — the world’s largest organization of scientists and physicians devoted to understanding the brain and the nervous system. At the SfN’s annual meeting in San Diego, Dr. Blakely was one of two honorees recognized as the nation’s top neuroscientists for making significant contributions to public education about neuroscience through outreach, policy and community activities.

We are very proud of Dr. Blakely’s impressive achievement, which reflects his extraordinary work in the university and beyond. At FAU, Dr. Blakely serves as executive director of the Stiles-Nicholson Brain Institute, as well as the David J.S. Nicholson Distinguished Professor in Neuroscience. Additionally, he is credited with founding FAU’s ASCEND (Advancing STEM: Community Engagement Through Neuroscience Discovery) program and the university’s month-long celebration of neuroscience known as the “Brainy Days” initiative.

Dr. Blakely is a truly inspirational academic leader with a resume full of groundbreaking scientific discoveries, as well as a passion for sharing his knowledge with our community and nurturing the next generation of neuroscientists. His vision is helping Florida Atlantic become a leader in neurological and mental health research and education, and I am delighted that his accomplishments have been recognized with the well-deserved Science Educator Award.
