Today marks the start of the 45th annual Black/African American History Month, our nation’s celebration of the achievements of African Americans and their important role in our history and culture. FAU has a number of Black History Month events taking place throughout February on our Boca Raton, Davie and Jupiter campuses, including discussions, poetry readings, virtual mixers, games, and more. Click here to view the full schedule of events.

Since its earliest days, FAU has been known as a place where every student – regardless of their background – has the opportunity to succeed. I’m very proud that FAU is recognized as one of the most diverse institutions in the nation, and as a place where the traditional achievement gaps between white and underrepresented students have been eliminated. In fact, FAU is one of the Top 10 producers of bachelor’s degrees for African Americans in the nation.

In spite of our accolades, we continue to look for ways to further foster inclusivity and equity on our campuses, and highlight the many groups that contribute to our institutional diversity. To that end, I hope everyone has an opportunity to participate in at least one of our many upcoming Black History Month events, to learn more about, and celebrate, African Americans’ many contributions to our nation and university.
