commencement stage

Today, we celebrated the graduation of the seventh class of physicians from the Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine. The 55 graduates began their journey in 2017, when up against an amazing set of odds, they were selected from more than 3,600 applicants.

The fact that our graduates matched with some of the top institutions nationally, and in some of the most competitive specializations — during a time in which four got married, 11 got engaged, and one welcomed twins — speaks volumes about their talent and commitment to their calling.

Seventeen of our graduates were hooded by parents, siblings, spouses, and even a grandparent — who also are physicians. What a wonderful tribute to those family members who preceded them — and likely inspired their journeys — in the field of medicine. Additionally, two members of this class, Rachael Silverberg and Jade Vorster, will serve as physicians in the U.S. Armed Forces. We thank them for their service.

Physicians have never been in higher demand, and as each of our graduates enters the front lines in the fight against the pandemic, I know that everyone here at FAU will be cheering them on.

Congratulations to our newest Owl Doctors! We are very proud of you!
