Florida Atlantic University Libraries at the John D. MacArthur Campus in Jupiter is now home to the Herbert Group Collection, honoring the generosity and lifelong vision of Herbert Group. This extraordinary collection, consisting of more than 3,500 Holocaust books and publications, preserves the memory of history while inspiring students, researchers and the community for generations to come.

Group’s passion for history and education was born from his personal family story and early experiences visiting Holocaust sites in Europe. For more than six decades, he collected English-language works on the Holocaust, carefully organizing and cataloging them to make the lessons of history accessible to all. This collection at FAU ensures that his vision of remembrance, resilience and learning continues to guide future generations.

“This collection holds a very personal meaning for me,” said Linda Marie Golian-Lui, Ed.D., Ed.S., dean of the FAU Libraries. “It represents not only Mr. Herbert Group’s extraordinary commitment to preserving Holocaust history, but also the enduring importance of remembrance, education and faith. His generosity ensures that the lessons of history will continue to shape future generations here at Florida Atlantic and beyond.”

The recent collection dedication ceremony featured remarks by Golian-Lui, who reflected on the enduring impact of Herbert Group’s generosity and scholarship; and FAU President Adam Hasner, who celebrated the collection as a gift that enriches the university and community. Rabbi Boruch Liberow offered a prayer honoring those remembered through the collection, and the donor’s family joined in the ribbon-cutting and unveiling.

The Herbert Group Collection is available to students, faculty, staff, researchers and members of the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, as well as the community.

“It stands as a living testament to the power of knowledge, the importance of remembering history, and the extraordinary impact of one individual’s dedication to education and scholarship,” said Mitchell Group, nephew of Herbert Group.
