Employee Educational Scholarship Program (EESP)
The Employee Educational Scholarship Program (EESP) is a tuition benefit offered to eligible Florida Atlantic University employees, their qualifying dependent(s) and spouse. Enrollment may be either degree-seeking or on a space available basis, contingent upon the qualifying enrollee.
EESP is available for up to six (6) credit hours* per term (Fall, Spring and Summer) at any of the six Florida Atlantic University locations: Boca Raton, Dania Beach, Davie, Fort Lauderdale, Harbor Branch, and Jupiter. *Six (6) credit hours is collective between the qualifying employee, dependent(s), and spouse. These credits do not accrue. The EESP determined credit remission/reimbursement is limited to the “Total” of “Fee Per Credit Hour” for Undergraduate Resident or Graduate Resident, whichever is applicable.
Enrollment and Eligible Courses – For all eligible employees, their qualifying dependent and spouse, enrollment must be online, regular lecture, or laboratory courses, thesis or dissertation, directed individual studies, directed research courses or internships. Only courses listed in the FAU catalog qualify for EESP. Contract courses or other special programs, including the College of Medicine and Continuing Education courses are not eligible. Employees will be responsible for the additional cost and fees associated with such programs as the Executive MBA, International MBA, FEEDS and E-College.
EESP is not applicable for student activity fees, supplies or books, housing costs, meal plans and/or any and all non-refundable fees as identified in the university catalog and regulations.
Eligible EMPLOYEE Criterion and Participation:
- Eligible employee classifications are Faculty, Administrative Managerial Professional (AMP), Support Personnel (SP), and PostDocs.
- Must be appointed to a permanent, full-time, 1.0FTE position.
- Must have served and completed six months of full-time, continuous service in the full-time qualifying position.
- Employee’s employment record must be discipline free for a minimum of six months immediately preceding the requested semester, or from the previous semester (of non-eligibility) to the current requested semester - whichever timeframe is less.
- Courses/class enrollment and participation is to be conducted on the employee's own time. Employees are encouraged to take classes during off-duty hours. If off-duty hours is not an option, supervisory approval of leave time to attend classes (supplement with annual leave, accrued compensatory leave, or leave without pay) or adjusting the employee's established work schedule (as long as this does not conflict with departmental operations) is required.
- Employees may enroll either as degree seeking students or on a space available basis.
- EESP participation and utilization can be for undergraduate, graduate, and doctorate* courses (remittance is limited to the “Total Fee Per Credit Hour” for Graduate Resident*).
- The employee will be responsible for paying the tuition and fees for any courses dropped (except for courses dropped on an emergency basis) by the employee after the official Drop/Add period during the first week of classes. If the individual withdraws from the university before the end of the last day to withdraw, the employee will be responsible for paying that portion of tuition and fees that is not subject to refund.
- An employee enrolled in an “A-F” graded course must receive a grade of “C” or better in any undergraduate level course or a grade of “B” or better in any graduate level course. An employee enrolled in a “P-F” graded course must receive a “P.” Receipt of a lower grade will result in the employee being charged for the course.
Eligible DEPENDENT(S)/CHILD(REN) Criterion and Participation:
- Must be the dependent child* of an eligible employee (as defined by IRS*).
- A dependent child must be duly admitted to an undergraduate degree program and must be enrolled in a minimum of twenty-one (21) credits per academic year, with a minimum of nine (9) credits in the Fall semester, and nine (9) credits in the Spring semester. The number of required credits is subject to modification based on the dependent child’s SAS accommodations and/or acceptance into university programs that do not allow the student to enroll in more than 8 credits during the initial fall semester of enrollment.
- The parent or employee will be responsible for any and all non-refundable fees as identified in the university catalog and regulations.
- The parent or employee will be responsible for paying the tuition and fees for any courses dropped (except for courses dropped on an emergency basis) by the student after the official Drop/Add period during the first week of classes. If the individual withdraws from the university before the end of the last day to withdraw the parent or employee will be responsible for paying that portion of tuition and fees that is not subject to refund.
- Students enrolled must maintain at least a 2.0 cumulative GPA. If the student falls below a 2.0 cumulative GPA for the term, the parent or employee will be responsible to repay the credits applied for that semester’s EESP.
Eligible SPOUSE Criterion and Participation:
- Must be the spouse of the eligible employee.
- A spouse may participate and utilize EESP at the undergraduate or graduate level.
- The spouse must be enrolled in six (6) credits per semester, of which, fees for three (3) will be waived at the rate of the level of program enrolled. The remaining three (3) credits must be paid for out of pocket. If the Spouse chooses to enter the University as a full-time, matriculated student, their admission to the University may be deferred to the Spring semester of the academic year they are attempting to enroll. Any credits taken over and above the six (6) required credits must be paid for by the spouse or employee.
